The reverse of each coin depicts two brown horses standing within a Chinese landscape. The Chinese character for 'horse' and the inscription 'Year of the Horse' also appear in the design with the Perth mint's traditional 'P' mintmark.
The Perth Mint issued the specimen/uncirculated version uncased, in a clear plastic capsule. The issue limit of 40,000 was not reached with the mintage declared at 7,423 specimen uncirculated coins.
